ARIZONA STRIP MULE DEER

Here is another fantastic Arizona strip mule deer buck from our 2013 Arizona mule deer season. This great typical Arizona strip buck was harvested by Hope Ramsey during the rifle mule deer hunt in Arizona Strip Unit 13B. Hope was hunting with her husband Robert Ramsey, friend Malcolm Smith, brother Houston Engelke, and Team ASG professional mule deer guide Tyne Heckethorn. The Arizona Strip Guides team had been keeping an eye on this great buck since the summer months during our intensive preseason scouting. We had a couple of very close calls and came very close to harvesting this great Arizona strip mule deer during the 2013 archery mule deer hunt in Unit 13B. Team ASG was able to relocate this great typical buck right before the rifle hunt started several miles away from where we had been seeing him during the summer. After spotting this buck crossing a large opening early one morning, a careful stalk was planned to get Hope within shooting range and the rest is history. One well placed shot from Hope was all it took to put this awesome Arizona strip buck on the ground and the entire hunt was captured on video due to some great camera work by Team ASG guide Tyne Heckethorn. Believe it or not, this giant Arizona strip buck is Hope’s first mule deer buck ever and she accomplished this amazing harvest while being 6 months pregnant with twins. What an incredible experience for the Ramsey family and Team ASG was very honored to be a part of this very special Arizona Strip mule deer hunt. Once again all of the glory goes to you Lord. GIANT ARIZONA STRIP MULE DEER

Here he is ladies and gentlemen, this is one of the highest scoring Arizona mule deer bucks that was harvested on the draw tag 2013 Arizona mule deer hunts. This giant Arizona strip mule deer buck was harvested by Kalen Joost during the rifle hunt in Unit 13B while being guided by Arizona Strip Guides LLC co-owner Travis McClendon. This tremendous Arizona strip buck of a lifetime definitely has everything you could ever want in a monster mule deer. A giant typical frame, lots of mass, a 32 inch spread, lots of extra points, and tons of character. The Arizona Strip Guides Team had captured this great buck on trail camera and he surpassed all of our expectations when we were finally able to harvest him. Everyone in camp pretty much agreed that this buck was a 220 plus non typical but none of us could have imagined that this buck was truly as big as he ended up being. It was a highly emotional moment for the entire Arizona Strip Guides Team as we finally got to lay hands on this magnificent Arizona Strip mule deer buck. Everything came together and Kalen was able to capitalize perfectly when this giant Arizona strip buck presented a shooting opportunity. In case any of you missed it, this giant Arizona strip buck was featured on the cover of Huntin Fool magazine last month along with a full length feature article describing the exciting hunt that culminated in the harvesting of this giant Arizona strip buck.

2013 ARIZONA STRIP MULE DEER HUNTS

Hello everybody, we hope that all of you trophy mule deer hunters out there that are reading the Arizona Strip Guides Blog have been managing to stay somewhat cool in this intense heat that we have been having lately. The Arizona Strip Guides Team has just returned from one of our June 2013 scouting trips to the Arizona Strip and the word HOT would be a good way to describe the Arizona Strip right now. We were able to set up 80 total trail cameras in Unit 13B and Unit 13A and Team ASG still has a lot more trail cameras to set up on the Arizona Strip and the Kaibab Plateau in this next month. We were hampered from going through the Kaibab Plateau and setting up more cameras on the strip by a broken trailer and a broke down Arctic Cat Prowler but we managed to work through the breakages to our equipment and get a lot of good country covered on the Arizona Strip. The Arizona Strip is pretty hot and dry right now but most of the country that we were able to cover on this trip does look definitely better than the Arizona Strip looked like at this same time last year. 2012 was a pretty tough year for trophy mule deer antler growth on the Arizona Strip as most of you know but there were still some giant bucks harvested in 2012. Team ASG has their eye on quite a few trophy mule deer bucks on the Arizona Strip that should score quite well in 2013. The Arizona Strip Guides Team is by no means expecting a world record setting season on the Arizona Strip in 2013 but we feel that it is pretty safe to say that it should be about an average year if not slightly better for trophy mule deer growth on the Arizona Strip this year 2013. There are definitely going to be some great mule deer bucks hitting the ground during the 2013 Arizona Strip Mule Deer Hunts and Team ASG is hoping to produce several of those giant Arizona strip bucks for our clients. The Arizona Strip mule deer bucks that we saw on this June 2013 scouting trip are already growing out quite nicely compared to last year 2012 and just about every deer that we saw during our trip looked to be in great and very healthy condition body wise. Keep your fingers, eyes, and toes crossed for more rain though, we can use all of the moisture that we can get. The bucks on the Arizona Strip are off to a pretty good start but we definitely need some more rain to help finish their antler growth. All in all, the Arizona Strip Guides Team had a successful scouting trip and we are eagerly awaiting to go back up and check all of our cameras so that we may show all of you trophy mule deer hunters some great 2013 mule deer pictures from the Arizona Strip. Team ASG would like to thank all of you trophy mule deer addicts that are reading the Arizona Strip Guides Blog and remember to keep checking in to keep seeing more great pictures of trophy Kaibab and Arizona Strip mule deer bucks. Good morning everyone, the Arizona Strip Guides Team hopes that all of you trophy mule deer hunters that are reading the Arizona Strip Guides Blog had a great Monday and we send you our best wishes for a safe and productive Tuesday as well. In case you folks missed our blog post from yesterday, we posted a picture of a great typical Arizona strip mule deer buck from 2011 which was a good year for antler growth. The Arizona strip mule deer buck that is pictured above is the exact same buck that we posted up yesterday except that this picture is from 2012 which was a very dry and tough year for all the trophy mule deer bucks on the Arizona strip. This Arizona strip buck is merely a shell of himself compared to 2011 and this picture shows just how much these Arizona strip bucks can go down in antler growth on a dry year. We will also be posting up some more examples on the Arizona Strip Guides Blog of how these trophy Arizona strip bucks can drastically change in antler growth from year to year. Like we mentioned yesterday, it’s pretty dry so far in Arizona this year so we hope that it would please hurry up rain. Good morning everybody, we have been on a brief hiatus for a family summer vacation but we are back now and the Arizona Strip Guides Team is ready to keep on showing all of you trophy mule deer addicts out there that are reading the Arizona Strip Guides Blog some more great pictures of trophy class Arizona strip bucks and trophy class Kaibab mule deer bucks. This great typical Arizona strip mule deer buck is from a 2011 trail camera photo. The Arizona Strip Guides Team was also able to get some trail camera pictures of this Arizona strip mule deer buck in 2012 and the antler growth was down considerably on this trophy mule deer buck. Make sure that you check the Arizona Strip Guides Blog tomorrow as we will be posting up a 2012 picture of this trophy Arizona strip buck to show you the effects that a drought year can have on trophy mule deer antler growth. We desperately need some more rain in Arizona folks. It looks like it might be shaping up to be another very dry year on the Arizona strip so please keep your fingers, eyes, and toes crossed that the Arizona strip receives some more moisture very soon. Good morning everybody, we have reached the midway point of the week and the Arizona Strip Guides Team hopes that all of you trophy mule deer addicts out there that are reading the Arizona Strip Guides Blog are having an excellent week so far. Here is another trophy Arizona strip buck for all of you guys and gals to look at. This Arizona strip mule deer buck was harvested right in the middle of a downpour on the last couple days of the rifle mule deer hunt in Arizona strip Unit 13B. The pangs of the rut ended up being this trophy Arizona strip bucks demise as a big group of does that he was chasing brought him out into the open from some really thick cover and finally allowed us to get a shot at this great typical Arizona strip mule deer buck. The rifle mule deer hunts on the Arizona strip usually offer hunters some rutting action but this is not always the case though. The rut activity can vary a lot on these Arizona strip rifle hunts depending on the moisture levels that the Arizona strip has received that year and the current weather conditions during that particular Arizona strip rifle hunt. On a good moisture year with some colder weather conditions that will kick start the rut, it is just as important to have some groups of does located on the Arizona strip as it is having trophy bucks located. The deer densities are very low on the Arizona strip and sometimes these lovesick Arizona strip bucks will travel quite a long ways in search of groups of does that are in estrus to breed. If you have a big group of does located on a good rut year on the Arizona strip you have got yourself a goldmine because eventually some big old Arizona strip bucks are going to show up to rut that group of does. Make sure that you make locating groups of does just as important as locating trophy bucks when you are scouting on the Arizona strip. Groups of does are a premium item on the Arizona strip and having these groups of does located are always an ace in the hole to have on your Arizona strip mule deer hunts. If you are having trouble finding a giant Arizona strip buck that you located in your preseason scouting you can always go back and check a nearby group of does and chances are that he just might be there hanging out with his lady friends. Good morning to all you trophy mule deer hunters out there. The Arizona Strip Guides Team hopes that all of you guys and gals are having a great Thursday so far and are making some fun plans with friends and family for the upcoming weekend. Are any of you guys gonna go out and pick up some big mule deer sheds this weekend? Team ASG thought you folks might like to see a whopper 200″ plus Arizona Strip mule deer buck that was taken with Team ASG on the archery mule deer hunt on the Arizona Strip. Talk about a monster mule deer dream come true.
