2013 UNIT 12B WEST MULE DEER

This great looking 2013 Unit 12B west mule deer buck from the early season rifle hunt was harvested by Jeff Moore while hunting with the Arizona Strip Guides LLC Team. Jeff was being guided on his successful 2013 Arizona mule deer hunt by Landon Wittwer of Team ASG. Also assisting on this great mule deer hunt was TJ Goodnow and Hoss Tait of the Arizona Strip Guides Team along with Isaac Johnson and Morgan Bringhurst. After passing up lots of bucks every day of their hunt, this great typical was located and the hunt for him was on. Jeff made a fantastic 200 plus yard offhand shot that anchored this trophy Arizona mule deer buck right in his tracks. The early season rifle mule deer hunts in Unit 12B west can be very difficult hunts but lots of hard work and tenacity from all of the great guys mentioned above culminated in the harvesting of this great looking Arizona mule deer buck. Great job to everyone involved. Jeff’s brother Bobby Moore also had a tag in his pocket on this 2013 Arizona mule deer hunt and we will be featuring Bobby’s buck that he harvested with Team ASG in Unit 12B west on the next post on the Arizona Strip Guides Blog. Hello again everyone, the next 2013 Arizona mule deer buck that we are going to be featuring on the Arizona Strip Guides Blog is this fantastic typical Arizona mule deer buck that was harvested by Dr. Luko Laptalo of California and guided by Dave Rhodes and TJ Goodnow of Team ASG. Team ASG would also like to give a great big thank you to Hoss Tait of Team ASG for all of his help on this great mule deer hunt also, we couldn’t have done it without you. This beautiful typical Arizona mule deer buck scores just under 190 B&C and was harvested on the Unit 12B West late season rifle mule deer hunt with the Arizona Strip Guides Team. The harvesting of this great Unit 12B west Arizona mule deer buck was an extremely exciting emotional roller coaster that culminated with Dr. Laptalo making a fantastic perfectly placed shot on this great Arizona mule deer buck under very difficult conditions. The results of that perfectly placed shot speak for themselves in this great trophy mule deer photo as Dr. Laptalo is now the very proud owner of a superb typical trophy Arizona mule deer buck. 2013 KAIBAB MULE DEER HUNTS

Good morning to all of you trophy mule deer hunters out there that are reading the Arizona Strip Guides Blog. As promised, we will be posting up a daily picture of all of the trophy Arizona mule deer bucks that the Arizona Strip Guides team was fortunate enough to produce this year in 2013. This first buck that we are featuring from our 2013 Kaibab rifle hunts is this 180 B&C 5×5 Arizona mule deer buck that was harvested by Eugene Nowak from California on the Unit 12A West early season Kaibab rifle mule deer hunt. Eugene was being guided by Brett Kelly of Team ASG on this successful trophy Kaibab mule deer hunt. After locating this 180 B&C class mule deer buck early in the morning all it took was one perfectly placed shot from Eugene and this trophy Kaibab mule deer buck was down for the count. Some good mass, great eyeguards, a solid typical frame and some really neat cheaters make this trophy Kaibab mule deer buck a definite wall hanger with lots of character. A big congratulations to Eugene Nowak and Team ASG guide Brett Kelly on harvesting this great Kaibab mule deer buck.

Here is a neat trail camera photo from the Arizona strip that Team ASG thought all of you trophy mule deer hunters would enjoy. Now that is a whole bunch of trophy mule deer antlers to have crammed together in just one trail camera photo. This trail camera picture of these 3 great Arizona strip bucks is from the 2011 Arizona strip hunting season. The Arizona Strip Guides Team had some very close encounters with all three of these trophy mule deer bucks during both the archery and rifle Arizona strip hunts during the 2011 Arizona strip hunting season. Team ASG was also able to get some video of these great Arizona strip bucks that we will be posting up very soon for you folks as well. The trophy mule deer buck that is the farthest to the right on this picture was harvested by another Arizona strip guide service and their client and I believe that this great Arizona strip buck scored somewhere around 210 B&C. We are not sure what happened to the buck that is in the middle of the photo but we did see the Arizona Strip buck that is on the far left in the picture during the 2012 Arizona strip hunting season. The 2012 drought definitely had its effect on the far left buck and he was down considerably in growth compared to how he was in 2011. In case you missed our earlier blog post, we are hoping for about an average antler growth year on the Arizona Strip for the 2013 season based on what we saw during our scouting trip to the Arizona Strip that Team ASG has just returned from. It doesn’t look like it is going to be as bad as last year which was pretty darn tough. The Arizona Strip Guides Team has already featured this giant typical Arizona strip mule deer buck on the Arizona Strip Guides Blog on an earlier post but we wanted to repost this giant buck because he is definitely one of the Arizona strip bucks that we would really like to see in 2013. This trail camera picture of this trophy mule deer buck is from the second week of July 2012 and this buck still had a lot of growing left to do. He has it all, good width, good mass, good tine length, and good eyeguards. This great mule deer buck quit showing up after a while last year and hopefully he made it through the 2012 Arizona strip hunting season. Team ASG will definitely have their eyes peeled looking for this giant typical mule deer buck during this 2013 Arizona strip hunting season. This great trophy mule deer buck lives in an area that can be pretty difficult to hunt and it will take a massive stroke of luck combined with a ton of preparation to harvest this great buck if he decides to show back up again for us. A lot of the giant bucks that we find throughout the year on our Arizona mule deer hunts unfortunately live in areas that can be extremely difficult to hunt. These bucks are no dummies and they know that they are quite safe by choosing to live in these types of areas but it sure is fun trying to outsmart these giant bucks though! Make sure you remember to keep reading the Arizona Strip Guides Blog to keep on seeing more trophy mule deer bucks from the Arizona Strip…….

The Arizona Strip mule deer buck that is featured in the 2012 trail camera picture above is a buck that we were calling Big Fronts for obvious reasons. We had an archery hunter shoot at this Arizona strip buck in 2011 but luck was definitely on this Arizona strip bucks side that day. This neat Arizona strip buck ended up being harvested by another Arizona strip guide service who was guiding a young man on the 2012 Arizona strip rifle hunts. Hello again folks, The Arizona Strip Guides Team is going to keep on trying to show all of you trophy mule deer hunters out there that are following the Arizona Strip Guides Blog at least two pictures a day of trophy Arizona strip bucks and some trophy Kaibab bucks, so here is a great picture of a trophy Kaibab mule deer buck for you. In our previous post this morning we talked a little bit about hunting mule deer in the rut and making sure that you have groups of does located in areas where the trophy mule deer like to rut in. This is absolutely paramount on the late season Kaibab mule deer hunts in the rut. When comparing the early season rifle hunts on the Kaibab to the late season rifle hunts on the Kaibab, the difference can be night and day. The Kaibab bucks’ rutting and migrating activity also has a lot to do with the weather but on a good moisture year with cold weather and snow, most of the Kaibab mule deer will pour out of the higher elevations on the Kaibab into the low winter ranges to rut and spend the cold winter months. It can be like you are hunting on a totally different planet from the early Kaibab hunts to the late Kaibab hunts. You have to know where these Kaibab mule deer will migrate and rut in order to have the highest chances of success on the late season Kaibab hunts in the rut. These Kaibab mule deer bucks have certain areas that they like to rut in and certain areas on the Kaibab always seem to always attract big rutting Kaibab bucks for whatever reason. These late Kaibab hunts are difficult to scout sometimes though because on many years the bulk of the migration movement takes place right during the hunt. This is where contracting the services of top quality Kaibab mule deer outfitters can make a tremendous difference in the outcome of your trophy Kaibab mule deer hunts. Hello again folks, we just never get tired of looking at trophy mule deer pictures and we know that you guys don’t either so here is another picture of a great Arizona Strip mule deer buck. This neat looking Arizona Strip mule deer buck only has a 3×4 main frame but this buck more than makes up for it with a great outside spread of 31 inches, good mass, and plenty of trophy room wall appeal. In case you didn’t read our earlier Kaibab Mule Deer Outfitters post from today, we touched a little bit on the low deer densities that hunters encounter when you are hunting trophy mule deer bucks on the Arizona strip. There are not a lot of deer on the Arizona strip and if you haven’t done your homework, and don’t know where to look, you could be in for a very long and disappointing hunting experience. Even if you know exactly where to look the Arizona strip can still be extremely difficult to hunt. Anyone that draws an Arizona strip mule deer tag needs to go in with the mindset that this is going to be a very tough mule deer hunt no matter what. The area is absolutely huge and a good way to describe the vast mule deer country that is found on the Arizona strip would be “Overwhelming”. This area is GIGANTIC and there are very low numbers of deer in it. Trying to find a giant buck on the Arizona strip can sometimes be like trying to find a needle in a haystack if you haven’t done your homework. Giant Kaibab bucks like this one aren’t under every tree but giant mule deer bucks like this do exist on the Kaibab Plateau and anytime that you are hunting the Kaibab you just might be the lucky hunter that meets up with an absolute giant mule deer buck like this one. The tags for the archery Kaibab mule deer hunts are fairly easy to draw and we have even had non resident archery mule deer hunters draw these Kaibab archery mule deer tags with zero bonus points on their very first time applying for Arizona mule deer. The Kaibab archery hunts are a good choice for any archers out there that want to hunt trophy mule deer in Arizona often and don’t want to wait for years and years to draw a tag. The Kaibab is a totally different mule deer hunting experience than the Arizona strip. It is not very uncommon to be hunting on the Arizona strip and go several days without seeing any deer at all, much less any giant bucks. It is the total opposite on the Kaibab. The Arizona strip produces much higher scoring bucks on average but the Kaibab offers non stop mule deer hunting action. The Kaibab Plateau has the highest mule deer density in the entire state of Arizona and you can expect to be seeing plenty of deer every single day on the Kaibab.
